Christmas

This week we have been busy practising for our concert next week.  All the children have learned the songs and know the words they need to say.  We hope that you can come to see us all performing.

As well as working towards the Christmas concert, we have been getting ready for Christmas in other ways.

We decorated our Christmas Tree with decorations that we painted.

We wrote letters to Father Christmas, asking him to bring us the present that we wanted.

We worked as a team and joined our hand prints together to make a picture of a Christmas Tree, decorated with baubles that we had created.

The Gingerbread Man

We have been spending lots of time this week practising our words and songs for the Christmas concert.  Miss Pauline thinks it is looking and sounding great already.  She cannot wait to see everyone dressed in their costumes!

We have also been learning the story of the Gingerbread Man.

"Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man"

The children tried to warn the gingerbread man about the fox - but he did not listen!!

We decorated our own ginger biscuits.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

This week in Nursery, we have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We acted out the story, as well as using toys to retell the events.
We have done lots of comparing and sorting by size.

We made moveable bears.

Elmer

This week we have been reading a story about Elmer the Elephant.  Elmer is not grey, like the other elephants.  Has has lots of colours.

We made our own "Elmers" using coloured squares.

We put different colours in the messy tray and mixed them up!

Here is a link to the story.  Elmer the Patchwork Elephant

Christmas Play

Here are the words to the songs that the children will be singing in this year's Christmas performance.  Below the words is a link to hear all the songs.
Please encourage your child to practise singing the songs at home!

We’d Like to Tell You a Story
We’d like to tell you a story,
Would you like to hear it?
A wonderful story that happened long ago
About a baby boy
Who filled our hearts with joy
And he was born in Bethlehem.

We’d like to tell you a story,
Would you like to hear it?
A wonderful story that happened long ago
It was a special night
The stars were shining bright
And he was born in Bethlehem.

We’d like to tell you a story,
Would you like to hear it?
A wonderful story that happened long ago
About a baby boy
Who filled our hearts with joy
And he was born in Bethlehem.

 Little Grey Donkey
Little grey donkey clipping, clopping,
Plodding down the track.
Little grey donkey clipping, clopping,
With a special person on his back,
Clip, clop, clip, clop.

(Instrumental verse)

Little grey donkey clipping, clopping,
Plodding down the track.
Little grey donkey clipping, clopping,
With a special person on his back,
Clip, clop, clip, clop.

Down in the Stable
Down in the stable, down in the stable
It won’t be too bad.
Down in the stable, down in the stable
It’s a cosy pad.
Come down with me and you will see
That it’s really not too bad.

Down with the animals, down with the animals,
It won’t be too bad.
Down with the animals, down with the animals,
It’s a cosy pad.
Come down with me and you will see
That it’s really not too bad.

There’s a Razzle and a Dazzle
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky.
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.

There’s a flashing and a splashing of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky.
There’s a flashing and a splashing of light in the sky
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.

There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky,
Light in the sky, light in the sky.
There’s a razzle and a dazzle of light in the sky
Shining down, down, down, down to the ground.

 A Miracle in Town
A baby’s born in Bethlehem,
A baby’s born in Bethlehem,
So come to the stable hurry on down,
There’s a miracle in town!

A baby’s born to make us glad,
A baby’s born to make us glad,
So come to the stable hurry on down,
There’s a miracle in town!

A baby’s born beneath a star,
A baby’s born beneath a star,
So come to the stable hurry on down,
There’s a miracle in town!

A baby’s born in Bethlehem,
A baby’s born in Bethlehem,
So come to the stable hurry on down,
There’s a miracle in town!
So come to the stable hurry on down,
There’s a miracle in town!

The Rainbow Fish

Our focus book this week has been "The Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister.  We have been thinking about friendship and sharing.  Please click on the link below to watch the story.

The Rainbow Fish - animation

After we had read the story, the children made their very own "Rainbow Fish".
Sticking on the glittery scales.
Using felt tip pens to add details.

Halloween

Hedgehogs

The children were very interested in hedgehogs, so they used autumn colours and a fork to paint on some spikes!

We also made some hedgehog bread.

We kneaded the dough to make it smooth.
We rolled it into hedgehog shapes.

We added sultana eyes and nose and made spikes by using scissors.

This is what they looked like before they were cooked.
If you would like to try making some of these yourself - here is a link to the recipe we used;  http://rainydaymum.co.uk/hedgehog-bread

Down in the Jungle...

Last week we continued with our animal theme to create a display for the cloakroom area.  The children worked hard using a variety of skills and techniques to make snakes, elephants and lions.

Music Week

For music week, we were thinking about lots of different sounds and listening to "The Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens.  The children practised moving like the different animals in the music.

The children used dried pulses to make their own shakers to play when we sang our favourite songs.

They decorated them with sparkles!

Miss Jane played her ukulele for the class, and then the children joined in with their shakers.
Miss Jane brought her ukulele into school.

Tiger Faces

We have been reading about "The Tiger Who Came to Tea" and made our very own tiger faces.  As you can see, the children were encouraged to do as much by themselves as they could and that meant that every tiger face was different - just like us!

Hello and welcome to our new blog

Here is our new blog.  It will be a great way to keep everybody up to date with what is happening in nursery. We will be adding to it as often as we can, so please click on follow the blog to make sure you are notified when more information is uploaded. Please be patient as it is the first time we have used this technology in this way.

September has been a very busy month with lots of new children and myself joining the Nursery.  Everyone is starting to feel much more settled and we have already been very creative!  We have been reading the story "Monkey Puzzle" and made pictures as well as our own monkeys!

Later in September we learned the story of "The Three Billy-Goats Gruff."  We painted trolls and made goats from the shapes that we have learned.

(pictures to follow!)
