Dinosaurs

As some of our children showed a great interest in dinosaurs recently, we decided to use that as the theme for our learning in Nursery.

Here are some of the activities that we did.

We looked at some dinosaurs and made pictures of them using paper shapes.

If you look very carefully, you can see the dinosaur cave in the background, with dinosaur footprints on it.

We used paper plates to make representations of dinosaurs.

We put together some dinosaur skeletons.

We updated our number line to fit in with our dinosaur topic.

We practised cutting out different dinosaurs and writing our own names on our work.

Here are some songs that we have been listening to.

Easter

This week we have been very busy preparing for Easter.  We have been reading stories about eggs, chicks and rabbits.  We made lots of different craft items and performed a song to the rest of the school in assembly.  Have a look at all the things we made!

The Easter Bunny came to school!

We printed Easter egg shapes onto our Easter cards, using a potato masher!

We used our hands and toes to make our chicken decorations.

We used corks to print designs onto egg shaped paper.

We used coloured paper to collage pictures of some of the things we think about at Easter time.

We used tissue paper to make translucent window decorations in the shape of eggs.

We enjoyed using the special extra messy paints to colour real eggs.  We had to rub the paint all over the egg with our hands.

At Easter time we usually have special treats to celebrate the end of Lent.  We prepared some treats of our own to eat at home.

First we mixed up the ingredients to make sure that everything was covered in the runny chocolate.
Here are the finished cakes - we think they look delicious!

Yummy!

Here are the entries into the school Easter Egg decorating competition which took place on Friday.  There were lots of beautiful and creative ideas.  Well done to all the children who took part.

Farm Animals

This week we started looking at farm animals.  The children painted and drew their favourite animals.  They talked about their favourite animals and their favourite farm stories.

We read some books about farms.

We made our own sheep.

We made some big jigsaws.

We learned some great songs.  The children added their own animals into the songs and thought of the sounds they would make.  Click on the pictures to learn and sing them!

Spring and Growth

This week we have been busy planting seeds and thinking about what plants need to grow.

We read the story of Titch, who planted a seed that grew very tall.

We decorated some pots to plant our own seeds.

Then we put compost in and planted some seeds.

We gave them a drink of water and put them onto the windowsill to see how long they took to grow.

We watched the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

We read a book about Jasper's Beanstalk.

Women's Day and Maslenitsa

This has been a very busy week for us.  After the holiday we only had two days to prepare for International Women's Day!

We made cards and bath bombs to give to a special woman at home.  We decided on the colours and special oils to scent them.  They smelled delightful.  Here are some pictures of us making them.

On Friday, we celebrated Maslenitsa, at school. We wrote our wishes for the coming Spring onto flower shapes and had a special assembly, where each class sang their special Spring songs.  After assembly, we gathered outside for the rest of our festival.

We helped Spring to wake up the bear.

Winter and Spring were arguing about which of them should stay.

We put the tree holding our Spring wishes in the highest place we could.

We burned the Lady Maslenitsa.
The festivities ended with a pancake snack and dancing to traditional music outside!

Friendship Week

This week we have focused on the theme of friendship, to tie in with Valentine's Day on 14th February.

We read stories about love and friendship.

We made heart shaped baskets to hold a surprise for a special person.  When they were finished, we put two sweets inside each basket and took them home to share.

We drew pictures of our friends and wrote messages to them, to let them know what we liked about them.

We made some delicious biscuits.  We mixed the ingredients together, rolled out the dough and cut heart shapes out.  When they had been baked we decorated them and took them home to eat!
